The good:
It's a very attractive and well designed piece of engineering. The shape and color of the Lune resembles a shiny white Lifesafer. Very pleasing to the eyes. It was smaller than I expected measuring only about 7 1/2 to 8 inches in diameter with the width being a tad longer than the height of the unit. But for the size of the unit it packs a powerful light punch in 7 distinct preset colors and 2 rainbow transition modes (one fast and the other slower). The primary colors are bright, vibrant, and saturated for such a small lamp. It truly does rival the Phillips Living colors on this point. Another thing, the top arm of the unit swings around almost 360 degrees, so light can be projected anywhere easily. And the Lune is light so it can be turned in any way you wish. Here is where IMO, it is vastly superior to Phillips. Now, unfortunately for The Bad:
The so called intuitive user friendly touch pad is a bit erratic. It doesn't always respond to a tap, or even a "hard press" when requesting it to change colors, dim, or turn off. It can "stick". Nothing like the ad that Cielux would lead one to believe. Also, in the rainbow colors setting you cannot dim the light. This is only possible in the primary colors. Also, when dimming there is no gauge as to how low you can dim the unit before it suddenly shuts off and one is forced to guess and start over again. This can be frustrating. I understand that Cielux engineered the Lune to be super user friendly with only one available hidden button but in my opinion they sacrificed vital options in favor of aesthetics. Also , the Lune is expensive at about 150 dollars. All in all, I give it 3 stars. 3 for the quality of the light but deduct 1 for the touch pad not working optimally (this is important since this is the only thing that controls the unit - nothing else). And another deduction for the price. At this price point the touch pad should work perfect.
*Edit - updated May 24th*I was informed by the manufacturer and seller my experience with the touch pad was not typical of the Lune. Sent the defective one back and Lumens quickly sent me out a new unit. Haven't received it yet, but am looking forward to enjoying a properly working light.
I'm going to upgrade my experience with this purchase to 5 stars. If the touch pad works the way it should then the price will make it worth while.
Also, for future reference to Cielux. 3 things you can do to improve the Lune.
1) Allow for dimming in the rainbow modes.
2) Slow the speed of the Rainbow modes down further (there is little difference between the two). There should be an option where the colors change so slowly one hardly notices, call it superslow.
3) Allow the dimming to even go down further, almost to night light status.Simplicity is nice but options are too.
